Sherman County, Texas from 1850 to 1950 as pictured in archived government photographs, vintage postcards, old school yearbooks and newspapers. This was life in Texas as our parents, grandparents and ancestors from Coldwater, Ideal, Stratford, Stevens and Texhoma saw it.

This photo, taken in 1904, shows the Sherman County Courthouse when Coldwater was the County seat. Completed in August of 1890, it was built of rock and was 22' x 33'. The builder, J.M. Turner, is at the far right in this picture. After the county seat was moved to Stratford in1901 the Coldwater courthouse was used by the Baptist Church .

On April 14, 1935 the residents of Stratford Texas faced one of the worst dust storm to ever hit the county. Two residents stand and watch the looming storm they will soon face.
