L G Wilson

Coach L.G Wilson

Born November 5, 1924 in Anson, Texas, legendary head coach and athletic director L.G. Wilson graduated from Anson High School and from Abilene Christian College in 1950, where he played football, baseball, and basketball.

Wilson coached at Winters from 1960 to 1967, Floydada from 1968 to 1982 and Tulia from 1983 to 1990 when he retired. During his career he also coached at Brownfield, Weatherford and Temple, Texas.

He was inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1979. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal named Wilson as one of the 60 most memorable contributors to South Plains athletics in 1999.

Coach Wilson mentored many coaches who also achieved great success including Bill Grissom and  Don Carthel.

Wilson died June 29, 2001 in Tulia, Texas and is buried in Plainview.
