Branding on the Matador Ranch

Branding on the Matador Ranch

In the late 1930s or early 1940s Marvin Stephens was holding the branding iron as 4 cowboys held the calf and tended to the business of turning young bulls into steers. In 1909 or 1910 Daniel Stephens (Marvin's father) quit working for the railroad and rented a farm from the Day family at Whiteflat Texas where all his children grew up. Three of his sons, Cliff, Joe, and Marvin worked for the Matador once they were old enough. Whiteflat was originally a Matador Ranch line camp. Today it is a ghost town.
