Born in Lockney Texas September 19, 1957, Thompson
graduated from Plainview High School in 1976,
where he played football and was All District
and All Panhandle. In college he played for the
Baylor Bears. During his professional football career he
played for the Denver Broncos, the Green Bay
Packers, the Baltimore Colts and the Kansas City
Chiefs. Thomson turned scientist after his
retirement from football in 1987.
Arland began his
scientific career, even before retiring from the
NFL by working for Lockheed
Martin as a systems software engineer. Thompson
received a degree in mathematics and computer
science from Baylor University in 1980 and a Master of Science at the University
of Colorado at Denver in 1994.
From 2004 to
2009, he was Chief Scientist for Advanced
Technology Associates in Littleton, Colorado.
Today, Thompson is a Senior Principal
Engineer and Flight Dynamics Lead for GPS ground
system for Raytheon.
