Ellis County, Texas
Seat: Waxahachie
Ellis County is the 98th fastest growing county in the
US based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the century with more than ten
thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Ellis County which was founded in 1849, grew in population to
111,358 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of inhabitants by 25.1 percent bringing the estimated total
population in July 2006 to 139,300.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Ellis
County the thirteenth fastest growing county in the Lone Star
State of Texas and the 98th fastest in the nation.
The median value for homes within the 940 square mile
jurisdiction of Ellis County was $91,400 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no estimates on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should give some indication of the bargains still available. |
