Seat: Pagosa Springs
Archuleta County is the 97th fastest growing county in
the US based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July
2006 for all counties that began the century with more than
ten thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census
Bureau estimates.
Archuleta County which was established in 1885, grew in
population to 9,898 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of inhabitants by 25.1 percent bringing the
estimated total population in July 2006 to 12,386.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made
Archuleta County the third fastest growing county in the
Centennial State of Colorado and the 97th fastest in the
nation.
The median value for homes within the 1,349 square mile
jurisdiction of Archuleta County was $167,400 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should give some indication of the bargains still available. |
