New Kent County is the 95th fastest growing county in
the US based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July
2006 for all counties that began the century with more than
ten thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census
Bureau estimates.
New Kent County which was established in 1654, grew in
population to 13,462 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of residents by 25.2 percent bringing the estimated
total population in July 2006 to 16,852.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made New Kent
County the seventh fastest growing county in the Old Dominion
State of Virginia and the 95th fastest growing in the nation.
The median value for homes within the 210 square mile
jurisdiction of New Kent County was $128,100 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should give some indication of the bargains still available. |
