85th Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Rains County, Texas
Seat: Emory
Rains County is the 85th fastest growing county in the
US based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the century with more than ten
thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Rains County which was established in 1870, grew in population
to 9,139 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of residents by 26 percent bringing the estimated total
population in July 2006 to 11,514.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Rains
County the eleventh fastest growing county in the Lone Star
State of Texas and the 85th fastest in the nation.
The median value for homes within the 232 square mile
jurisdiction of Rains County was $60,500 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how this rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should give some indication of the bargains still available. |
