Seat: HudsonSt. Croix County is the 80st fastest growing county in
the US based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July
2006 for all counties that began the century with more than
ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
St. Croix County which was founded in 1840, grew in
population to 63,155 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of residents by 26.7 percent bringing the
estimated total population in July 2006 to 80,015.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made St.
Croix County the fastest growing county in the Badger State of
Wisconsin and the 80th fastest in the nation.
The median value for homes within the 722 square mile
jurisdiction of St. Croix County was $139,500 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should give some indication of the bargains still available.
