65th Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Pickens County, Georgia
Seat: Jasper
Pickens County is the 65th fastest growing county in the US
based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for
all counties that began the century with more than ten
thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Pickens County which was established in 1853, grew in
population to 22,983 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of residents by 29 percent bringing the estimated
total population in July 2006 to 29,640.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Pickens
County the thirteenth fastest growing county in the Peach
State of Georgia and the 65th fastest in the nation.
The median value for a home within the 232 square mile
jurisdiction of Pickens County was $113,100 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should help. |
