Douglas County is the 58th fastest growing county in America
based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the period with more than ten
thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Douglas County which was founded in 1870, grew in population
to 92,244 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of residents by 29.6 percent bringing the estimated
total population in July 2006 to 119,557.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Douglas
County the eleventh fastest growing county in the Peach State
of Georgia and the 58th fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 199 square mile jurisdiction of Douglas
County was $102,700. |
