Walton County is the 47th fastest growing county in America
based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Walton County which was established in 1803, grew in
population to 60,687 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of inhabitants by 30.8 percent bringing the
estimated total population in July 2006 to 79,388.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Walton
County the ninth fastest growing county in the Peach State of
Georgia and the 47th fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 329 square mile jurisdiction of Walton
County was $113,300. |
