on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for
all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand
residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
Lee County which was established in 1826, grew in population
to 24,757 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of inhabitants by 31.3 percent bringing the estimated
total population in July 2006 to 32,495.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Lee
County the eighth fastest growing county in the Peach State of
Georgia and the 43rd fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 356 square mile jurisdiction of Lee County
was $102,900.
