Seat: Tonopah
Nye County is the 42nd fastest growing county in America based
on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for
all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand
residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
Nye County which was founded in 1864, grew in population to
32,512 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of inhabitants by 31.3 percent bringing the estimated
total population in July 2006 to 42,693.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Nye
County the second fastest growing county in the Silver State
of Nevada and the 42nd fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 18,147 square mile jurisdiction of Nye
County was $122,100. |
