Placer County is the 41st fastest growing county in America
based on growth rate between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Placer County which was founded in 1851, grew in population to
248,399 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of inhabitants by 31.3 percent bringing the estimated
total population in July 2006 to 326,242.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Placer
County the fastest growing county in the Golden State of
California and the 41st fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 1,404 square mile jurisdiction of Placer
County was $213,900.
