based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Tooele County which was established in 1849, grew in
population to 40,735 by the year 2000. In the six years that
marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased
the number of residents by 31.5 percent bringing the
estimated total population in July 2006 to 53,552.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Tooele
County the third fastest growing county in the Beehive State
of Utah and the 40th fastest in the country.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 6,946 square mile jurisdiction of Tooele
County was $127,800.
