39th Fastest Growing County In The US
Canyon County, Idaho
Seat: Caldwell

Canyon County is the 39th fastest growing county in America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

Canyon County which was established in 1892, had already grown in population to 131,441 by the year 2000. But in the six years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number of inhabitants by 31.8 percent bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to 173,302.

The astounding growth of the last six years has made Canyon County the fastest growing county in the Gem State of Idaho and the 39th fastest in the nation.

It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected the price of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for a home within the 590 square mile jurisdiction of Canyon County was $96,300.
