based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Sherburne County which was founded in 1856, had already grown
in population to 64,415 by the year 2000. But in the six years
that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county
increased the number of residents by 31.9 percent bringing the
estimated total population in July 2006 to 84,995.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Sherburne
County the second fastest growing county in the Land of 10,000
Lakes of Minnesota and the 38th fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 437 square mile jurisdiction of Sherburne
County was $137,500.
