Spotsylvania County, Virginia
Seat: Spotsylvania
Spotsylvania County is the 37th fastest growing county in
America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and
July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census
Bureau estimates.
Spotsylvania County which was established in 1721, had already
grown in population to 90,393 by the year 2000. But in the six
years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the
county increased the number of inhabitants by 32.2 percent
bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to
119,529.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made
Spotsylvania County the second fastest growing county in the
Old Dominion State of Virginia and the 37th fastest in the
country.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the price of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 401 square mile jurisdiction of Spotsylvania
County was $128,500.
