Jackson County is the 32nd fastest growing county in America
based on growth rate between January 2000 and July 2006
for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
estimates.
Jackson County which was established in 1796, had already
grown in population to 41,589 by the year 2000. But in the six
years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the
county increased the number of inhabitants by 34.1 percent
bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to
55,778.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Jackson
County the seventh fastest growing county in the Peach State
of Georgia and the 32nd fastest in the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the price of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 342 square mile jurisdiction of Jackson
County was $102,900.
