Third Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Rockwall County, Texas
Seat: Rockwall
Rockwall County enjoyed explosive growth during the first few
years of the twenty first century. According to the U.S.
Census Bureau estimates Rockwall County is the third fastest
growing county in America based on percent of growth between
January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the
century with more than ten thousand residents.
The county was founded in 1873 because access to the county
seat of Kaufman County, of which county the area was then a
part, was inconvenient for the residents of what became
Rockwall County. Today, both Rockwall and Kaufman counties are
in the top 50 fastest growing counties of the 21st Century.
The population spurt of the last six years has made Rockwall
County the fastest growing county in the Lone Star State of
Texas and the third fastest in the nation.
Although no figures are available to determine how the growth
may have affected the price of homes in the area, in the year
2000 the median cost for a home within the 129 square mile
jurisdiction was $147,100.
