27th Fastest Growing County In the Nation

in America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and
July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census
Bureau estimates.
Matanuska-Susitna Borough which was established in 1964, had
already grown in population to 59322 by the year 2000. But in
the six years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century,
the county increased the number of inhabitants by 35.7
percent bringing the estimated total population in July
2006 to 80,480.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made
Matanuska-Susitna Borough the number fastest growing borough
in the Last Frontier State of Alaska and the 27th fastest in
the nation.
It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected
the price of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for
a home within the 24,694 square mile jurisdiction of
Matanuska-Susitna Borough was $125,800.
