21st Fastest Growing County In the Nation

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that Scott County is the
21st fastest growing county in America based on percent of
growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties
that began the period with more than ten thousand inhabitants.
Scott County is a member of the Metropolitan Council that
serves the seven county Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan
area. The council's concerns about responsible growth
management are well known and they advocate for progressive
development concepts such as clustering, open-space design,
and the preservation of open space and rural/agricultural
land.
The Shakopee-Mdewakanton Indian Reservation is located
within parts of the cities of Prior Lake and Shakopee in Scott
County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, there were only 338
individuals living on the reservation property.
Scott County which was established in 1853, had already grown
in population to 89,498 by the year 2000. But in the six years
that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county
increased the number of inhabitants by 38.7 percent
bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to
124,092.
The astounding growth of the last six years has made Scott
County the fastest growing county in the Land of 10,000 Lakes
and the 21st fastest in the nation.
Although no figures are available to determine how the growth
may have affected the price of homes in the area, in the year
2000 the median cost for a home within the 357 square mile
jurisdiction was $157,300. |
