Second Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Kendall County, Illinois
Seat: Yorkville

Kendall County enjoyed incredible growth during the first years of the twenty first century. According to the U.S. Census Bureau estimates Kendall County is the second fastest growing county in America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the century with more than ten thousand inhabitants.

Kendall County which was established in 1841 , had already grown in population to 54,520 by the year 2000. But in the six years that marked the beginning of the 21 Century, the county increased the number of residents by 61.7 percent bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to 88,158.

The population spurt of the last six years has made Kendall County the number 1 fastest growing county in the Prairie State of Illinois and the second fastest in the nation.

Although no figures are available to determine how the growth may have affected the price of homes in the area, in the year 2000 the median cost for a home within the 321 square mile jurisdiction was $154,900. Kendall County is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.
