Famous People from Motley County, Texas.

Warren E. "Tex" Tilson

Warren "Tex" Tilson

Born in Motley County, Texas June 8, 1902, Tilson was a football player and coach from 1922 to 1940. Better known as Tex Tilson, he was captain of the 1924 Washington & Lee Generals and played as a tackle from 1922 to 1925. Later as head coach of the Generals, he led the Generals to the 1934 Southern Conference championship.

Tilson never forgot his ranching heritage. In 1932 he bought a 426 acre farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He quickly introduced cattle to the farm and hailing back to his childhood in West Texas renamed the Broadview Farm to Broadview Ranch. His descendants still own and operate the ranch and raise high quality grass fed beef.

In 1947 he founded Rockbridge Hunt at his farm, Broadview Ranch. Rockbridge was registered with the Masters of Foxhounds Association in 1960 and recognized in 1962.

Tilson died in March 3, 1984 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
