More than 75,000 cards that contained voter's full names, addresses and Social Security numbers were found in a trash bin and a random sampling showed many were for active voters.

The cards were contained in more than 30 boxes of voter registration application cards, precinct cards and other documents Monday in a construction trash bin at Atlanta Technical College in southwest Atlanta.

Handel said, ``This represents a significant and serious breach of the personal information of Fulton County voters and an outrageous violation of the trust and integrity of Fulton County's elections.''

Handel has called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the county solicitor general's office to investigate and said she will audit the county elections office, because ``this breach also creates serious concerns about the overall operations'' of the office.

In a letter dated April 11, 2007, Secretary Handel asked Fulton County Chairman John Eaves and Fulton County to immediately begin contacting all Fulton County voters of the potential exposure of their personal information.

Last year, Chicago voters filed a class action suit against the Elections board for a similar breach involving voter registration information published on the Board's Web site.
