NY County Publishes Sensitive Information Online

The Suffolk County Clerk of Courts recently published numerous documents online that contained sensitive information belonging to thousands of individuals,

Many of you may have heard of the Suffolk County Clerks website. This website has been taken offline once already due to Social Security Numbers posted on it. The County Clerk is now saying they are redacting this info. Redacting is not 100% accurate on information that has been typed, nor will it do hand written numbers written on any documents.

However, it is not only about Social Security Numbers. There are instruments with your bank account numbers, mother's maiden name, your signature, the address of your house, etc. Family affidavits that get filed also appear on occasion.

New York State / Suffolk County does not have the Safe at Home Act as many other states do. This act gives the right to victims of child abuse, domestic abuse and victims of violent crimes to have their information kept offline. Who will protect them?

The Suffolk County Clerk I.T. director has stated in meetings that "YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PRODUCE A TRW LIKE REPORT ON YOUR NEIGHBOR". Don't let this happen to you.
