Crime Plagued County Office Will Move
Oct-01-07
After three break-ins and a robbery, officials in Shelby County
Tennessee say they've had enough, according to the Memphis Commercial
Appeal.
Speaking of the break-ins, County Administrator Susan Henning told
the newspaper," They come through the ceilings and they come through the
walls."
County Clerk Debbie Stampson operates seven branch offices to make it
more convenient for county residents to pay taxes and fees. The office
with the crime problem will be relocated to a mall that will provide its
own security.
County Commissioner Joyce Avery says crime is a real problem in
Memphis and the move shows just how serious the problem has become.
Officials estimate that repairs to the facility after the break-ins
cost taxpayers $30,000. In addition, the robbery resulted in three
employees taking three months off from work.
