Famous People from Midland County Texas Cedric Benson
Born December 28, 1982 in Midland, Texas, Benson attended Lee
High School in Midland. He is a former University of Texas and NFL
running back. He played college football for the University of
Texas, and was recognized as a consensus All-American. He was
drafted by the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL)
fourth overall in the 2005 NFL Draft, and also played for the
After his retirement from football, Benson became a loan originator and Business Development Executive for Security National Mortgage in Austin, Texas and started his own charity organization called NUFCED. The charity lists its objective on the website by saying: "Cedric Benson’s nonprofit foundation, NUFCED, helps nurture underprivileged families and cultivates educational development through community and school programs across the State of Texas." They add that they are: "Encouraging and inspiring youth, coaching them to work hard, overcome obstacles, make positive choices and live fulfilling lives."
Cedric Benson died at the age of 36 after a motorcycle accident in Austin, Texas, on August 17 2019. He was killed when a mini-van was trying to cross an intersection and hit his motorcycle. He and an unidentified woman were both pronounced dead at the scene.
