eBay Selling
By Disele Long

eBay selling has become more and more popular over the years as people begin to realize that there is money to be made on the site. The fact that people from all over the world buy and sell on eBay has made it a global marketplace where virtually anything can be found for a price.

So how does eBay selling work?

In essence, a person lists an item that can either be purchased straight away or bid on for a limited number of days. In that way, eBay works a little bit like a silent auction. There are pros and cons to each method, and depending on what you are selling, one way might be better than the other.

If you are on eBay selling items that you have duplicates of, then using the "Buy it Now" option might be a good idea. If you sell one, you can always turn right around and sell another one. However, you need to do research on your item to get a good idea of what Buy it Now price to set on it. You don't want to cut yourself short and sell it too low and not make a profit on it - especially if someone was willing to bid higher on it.

When you are on eBay selling items using the Buy it Now option you also want to make sure that you are setting the price a little higher than what you expect the auction price to go for. After all, people will not have an incentive to bid, which could bring in a greater amount of money, if they can purchase it outright without having to wait.

You should also use the "Reserve" option with care when you are eBay selling. Although it might seem like a good idea to use a reserve, especially if you are selling something that you know should fetch a lot of money, but it can actually turn people off of your item and make them not want to bid on it.

If you are selling on eBay and you are afraid that your item is going to go for a low price, then try setting the minimum bid at a higher price instead of resorting to the "Reserve" option. If you look around, you will see that many people even list "No reserve" in their product descriptions because they know that buyers get turned off by the idea.

Doing your research when it comes to selling eBay is important at any rate. Once you know what you want to sell you should look around and see what prices those items are fetching on eBay. Look at items that have bids on them and pay attention to how much people are willing to pay for them. Buy it Now prices might not always be the best indication of how much an item is going for on eBay. However, looking at prices that items have fetched historically, on the other hand, can be helpful.

If you are an eBay seller, or even one of the ebay wholesalers, either for an income or for extra money, then understanding the different methods of listing items, tracking trends, and doing your research as far as prices and what is selling can go a long way in making you a profit.
