93rd Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Fayette County, Tennessee
Seat: Somerville

Fayette County is the 93rd fastest growing county in the US based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the century with more than ten thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

Fayette County which was founded in 1824, grew in population to 28,796 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number of inhabitants by 25.4 percent bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to 36,102.

The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Fayette County the number 3 fastest growing county in the Volunteer State of Tennessee and the 93rd fastest in the nation.

The median value for homes within the 704 square mile jurisdiction of Fayette County was $100,100 in 2000 but the Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow should give some indication of the bargains still available.
