70th Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Berkeley County, West Virginia
Berkeley County is the 70th fastest growing county in the US
based on rate of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for
all counties that began the century with more than ten
thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau
Berkeley County which was founded in 1772, grew in population
to 75,905 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the
beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number
of inhabitants by 28.5 percent bringing the estimated total
population in July 2006 to 97,534.
The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Berkeley
County the fastest growing county in the Mountain State of
West Virginia and the 70th fastest in the nation.
The median value for a home within the 321 square mile
jurisdiction of Berkeley County was $99,700 in 2000 but the
Bureau had no statistics on home value for 2006. Determining
how the rapid growth may have affected the value of homes in
the area is difficult but the current auctions that follow
should give some indication.
