Seat: New Braunfels

Comal County is the 56th fastest growing county in America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

Comal County which was founded in 1846, grew in population to 78,021 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number of inhabitants by 29.7 percent bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to 101,181.

The outstanding growth of the last six years has made Comal County the ninth fastest growing county in the Lone Star State of Texas and the 56th fastest in the nation.

It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for a home within the 562 square mile jurisdiction of Comal County was $117,000.
