46th Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Weld County, Colorado
Seat: Greeley

Weld County is the 46th fastest growing county in America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand inhabitants, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

Weld County which was founded in 1861, grew in population to 180,861 by the year 2000. In the six years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number of residents by 31 percent bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to 236,857.

The astounding growth of the last six years has made Weld County the number 2 fastest growing county in the Centennial State of Colorado and the 46th fastest in the nation.

It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for a home within the 3,993 square mile jurisdiction of Weld County was $140,400.
