38th Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Sherburne County, Minnesota
Seat: Elk River
 ADVERTISEMENT

Sherburne County is the 38th fastest growing county in America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand residents, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

Sherburne County which was founded in 1856, had already grown in population to 64,415 by the year 2000. But in the six years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number of residents by 31.9 percent bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to 84,995.

The astounding growth of the last six years has made Sherburne County the second fastest growing county in the Land of 10,000 Lakes of Minnesota and the 38th fastest in the nation.

It is difficult to determine how the growth may have affected the value of homes in the area but in 2000 the median cost for a home within the 437 square mile jurisdiction of Sherburne County was $137,500.
