22nd Fastest Growing County In the Nation
Barrow County, Georgia
Seat: Winder

The United States Census Bureau estimates that Barrow County, Georgia is the 22nd fastest growing county in America based on percent of growth between January 2000 and July 2006 for all counties that began the period with more than ten thousand inhabitants.

Barrow County which was founded in 1914, had already grown in population to 46,144 by the year 2000. But in the six years that marked the beginning of the 21st Century, the county increased the number of residents by 38.1 percent bringing the estimated total population in July 2006 to 63,702.

The astounding growth of the last six years has made Barrow County the fifth fastest growing county in the Peach State of Georgia and the 22nd fastest in the nation.

Although no figures are available to determine how the growth may have affected the price of homes in the area, in the year 2000 the median cost for a home within the 162 square mile jurisdiction was $103,400.
